Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment & Sustainability

Ecosystem Services Geospatial Intern 

May 2022 – July 2022

  • Conducted spatial and statistical analyses on ecosystem service accounts for the Southeast US using R, Python and ArcGIS Pro.

  • Performed case study on ecosystem service accounts in North Carolina National Wildlife Refuges and explored how natural capital accounts can be of value to the Fish and Wildlife Service.

Duke University Bass Connections: Biocultural Sustainability in Madagascar

GIS Specialist      

March 2022 – Present

  • Contributing to ongoing research on biodiversity in Madagascar by planning drone analysis and remote sensing using satellite imagery to map landcover in project area.

  • Collaborating with team at Duke University as well as with Malagasy colleges abroad which includes learning Malagasy to facilitate communications.

  • Creating occupancy models of lemur species located in study site.

Duke University: Rainforest Engineering for XPRIZE Rainforest Competition                                      

January 2022 – May 2022

  • GIS specialist for team to facilitate 2D and 3D mapping of rainforest from drone footage.

  • Worked with drones to analyze rainforests including planning flights that will produce the best models and transferring GPS data of observations into ArcGIS interface. 

  • Identified metrics of significance for informing conservation decisions.

  • Collaborated with team which included mentoring of undergraduate students.

Duke Lemur Center

Animal Behavior Assistant                                                                           

September 2021 –May 2022

  • Assisting in three studies related to lemur behavior and enhancing welfare through enrichment.

  • Created R code to analyze behavior data in which activity budgets and visualizations are produced.

  • Instrumental in creation of ethogram that will be used to quantify behaviors that result from interactions with enrichment items.

Undergraduate Researcher

August 2020 – February 2021

  • Researched issues relating to tolerance towards wildlife.

  • Coded outcomes of wildlife ballot measures and compared with value orientations of states.
